For my next photo, I'm considering using one of the macro shots I took last week. I have a great picture of a dandelion and a purple flower, and I have a picture of the bus window in the rain. I plan to take more photos this week, of course, but I think the hardest part of this week's photo assignment may be choosing which picture to use. I also might take even more macro shots of various things.

For my first weekly photo assignment, I took a photo of the plants currently growing in our garden, with a rabbit out of focus in the background. I was going to take a picture of my cats for this week, but it rained and Spring came more suddenly than I expected. Several beautiful days occurred in a row, and I found myself taking a lot of pictures of this early-spring nature. I chose this one because I loved the way you could see the spiderwebs between the leaves, and the different shades of green in the background and the foreground. I learned that you don't always have to take a long time setting up a shot to get a good picture. This week, I took 115 pictures, and a lot of them were pretty bad. If I had taken 12 photos with the same ratio of good pictures to not good pictures, I may have ended up with a worse best picture than what I turned in. I'm not saying that quantity trumps quality, but that quantity can lead to quality. F-Stop: 5.6
Shutter Speed: 1600 ISO: 1600 For my first Photography assignment, I hope to photograph my cats under the category Animal. I have three of them, and I should be able to capture their respective personalities. One of my cats spends a lot of time sleeping on the back deck in the sun, and I hope to be able to get a picture of him there.
Our assignment that this blog post describes was Composition 1&2. We were required to learn about various techniques to be used to improve a shot, and to take images around the school that fit into those categories. We each turned in eleven pictures total. I'd heard about photographers noticing the world around them more than other people, but I had never really considered it. Even in this introductory assignment, I noticed the color palate of the school, the ways in which it was designed, and even things like why the walls are painted.
I also got a taste of how much I don't know. After we learned about the Rule of Thirds, I began to see it everywhere. I had always thought that many art classes didn't really have a point, because art is all about self-expression or pleasing your audience, and those things can't be taught. Now, I realize, even though I hadn't ever known about the rule of thirds, I benefitted from it as an audience member, and almost every form of media utilizes it. When I signed up for this class, I was slightly worried about how little curriculum it could have. Now, I realize that there's so much more to learn. I'm Adam Martinelli. I don't really do a lot outside of school. I do Marching Band while it's in season, and Drama Club and Hornet Light and Sound from time to time, but I don't think of Drama or Theater Tech as a passion of mine. I'm also in the Wind Ensemble, and I'm in a percussion ensemble this year as well.
I don't mean to be blunt, but I took this class because I need the tech credit. I thought photography seemed like something I would enjoy, and it seemed more enjoyable than the alternatives. I've really only taken photos on vacations and the likes in the past -- low-grade, and not purposeful or artistic -- and I actually have less than average experience with photography in terms of social media. That being said, I have no disposition towards photography. It's always something that I had considered getting better at. |
